Pope accepts Bishop McCarrick's resignation amid child abuse allegations The Vatican announced on Saturday that Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, D.C., from the College of Cardinals.  A statement from the Vatican said the pontiff received the letter of resignation a day earlier by the former archbishop.   Besides agreeing to McCarrick's stepping down as a cardinal, Francis ordered him to conduct "a life of prayer and penance" until sex abuse accusations against him are examined in a Catholic church trial. Cardinal McCarrick, 88, was removed from his post on June 20 over a series of allegations of child abuse. He was accused of fondling a teenager over 40 years ago in New York City. A man, who was 11 at the time of the first alleged instance of abuse, said a sexually abusive relationship continued for two more decades. McCarrick has denied the initial allegation.  Th...

Former Missouri sheriff, deputy had affair, now indicted on multiple felonies former Texas County Sheriff James Sigman, 48, and Lt. Deputy Jennifer Tomaszewski, 38, were indicted on multiple felonies.  (Greene County and Shannon County Jails) A southern Missouri sheriff and a deputy with whom he had an affair were both indicted last week on felonies -- including assault, robbery and harassment -- in a scenario that the interim sheriff described as “wheels (falling) off.” Former Texas County Sheriff James Sigman, 48, and Lt. Deputy Jennifer Tomaszewski, 38, also were indicted on child endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon. Sigman hired Tomaszewski as a jailer in December 2016, which was around the time they began a romance, the  St. Louis Post-Dispatch  reported, citing court records. The fire destroyed about 90 percent of the Cosmo Extended Stay in Benton Harbor in the southwestern portion of the state, on the shores of Lake Michigan. At the time, 27 rooms were occupied.  Leroy Johnson, who lives in the motel, told the station that the fire might have ignited inside his room. “As I woke up my bed was on fire. Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Announces Retirement From Football The 32-year-old announced the news to his Wolverhampton Wanderers teammates, before a training session at Compton on Tuesday morning. Ikeme took the decision, after consulting with medical experts, following his 12-month battle with acute leukaemia. Last month, Ikeme announced on Twitter, that he was in complete remission from the disease, after “a tough year and intense chemotherapy”. Emery said he would work with Iwobi and others he met at the club first before allowing anyone to move. The former Sevilla manager told arsenal.com, ”I have the information. See What Happened To A Goalkeeper After Using Phone During Match To Order Uber A Brazilian goalkeeper who used his mobile phone during a match as a PR stunt in collaboration with Uber has been suspended for acting against the “ethics of the sport”. Atletico Paranaense goalkeeper Santos was filmed using his mobile phone in a match against Atletico Minero on May 13. Santos, 28, has now been suspended for one match by the Superior Tribunal of Sports Justice in Brazil. The suspension is down to a rule in which players are banned from “any conduct contrary to discipline or sporting ethics not typified by other rules of the code”. Atletico Paranaense were fined £10,000 for helping to organise the PR stunt. The initiative was planned by the club and ride-sharing company Uber as part of a campaign to increase awareness of the dangers of driving whist using a mobile phone.
